Methanol is the most simple alcohol, a chemical building block used in a wide variety of applications. It is used in plastics, glues and car parts. It is also finding increased usage as a fuel used in cars and power generation. The methanol industry is worth almost 40 billion dollars.
This report will cover the technologies used to produce methanol. The current industrial –process is composed of two steps. Generation of syngas followed by its conversion to methanol. Syngas is produced from a variety of feedstock’s, from natural gas (methane), naphtha, biomass and coal. The report will discuss feedstock routes and in cases where necessary their gasification, reforming and distillation. The report will also cover bio-methanol and carbon dioxide reforming as well as other promising developments.
